About Us
Who We Are
Louisville Roller Derby is Louisville, Kentucky’s first and only Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby league. We are a diverse league coming together from Louisville and Southern Indiana to pursue excellence through competition and athleticism. We work together to passionately promote roller derby and foster the spirit of the sport while providing marketable sports entertainment for the greater Louisville Metro area.
Our History
Established as an LLC in 2005, Louisville Roller Derby (formally Derby City Roller Girls) was owned and operated by individuals who love to skate. LRD started as a small group of passionate locals with like-minded determination and dreams of bringing the sport and art of roller derby to the Louisville community. In 2009, Louisville Roller Derby was honored to acquire status as an official member of WFTDA, the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association. LRD has continued to grow over the years as a league to better align with creating a safe space and the core values of inclusivity that are held by the group. In 2018, the move was made from an LLC to a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. This was followed by the most recent growth in 2022 with the Rebrand Launch, changing the league's name from Derby City Roller Girls to Louisville Roller Derby and revealing a new logo, retiring the previous pin up design to a sleek lightning bolt to pay homage to the original imagery of the league.
